Mrs. Zimmeman's classes are canceled for this week.

Feb 17th we will be celebrating Valentine's day. If you'd like to participate, bring valentines to deliver and a "mailbox" so that others can deliver to you.

Just a reminder:
Parents must stay on site, or have a designated babysitter who is watching their kids.
If LPS cancels due to bad weather, so do we.
I will announce class cancellations on the blog, so be sure and check in before you leave home.

Welcome to Friday Classes! We're a christian homeschooling co-op that meets on Fridays during the school year. We offer a variety of classes aimed at preschool through middle school aged students. While all of our teachers are believers, we welcome all who wish to attend.

Here's how it works: We charge a registration fee of $41 per family. That money goes to pay the rent to the church, and the janitorial costs to clean up when we're done. Then you pay individual teachers for the specific classes you register for. We have some paperwork to fill out, and it can be found below this posting. Simply print it out and bring it along to registration day. Registration is on a first come/first serve basis.

Friendship Bracelets with Mrs. Wilen

Come learn the fun yarn art of making friendship bracelets. If you have never made a bracelet (or tried but gotten all tangled up!), come learn the basics and using simple techniques see how easy and fun it can be! Or if you have made a few easy bracelets but would like to try some new fun or more difficult patterns or hone your skills, we can do that as well. One-on-one or small group instruction available.

This is a fun and often messy class for preschoolers and early elementary aged kids. We will explore the elements of art, as well as many different mediums and techniques. Come and join us as we discover what fun art can be!!

Crochet with Mrs. Gann
Ages 6 and up

Do you like to create? Do you like to make gifts for others? We do too, so come join our Crochet classes and find out about how to enjoy your creative side! The teacher will offer some easy as well as challenging project ideas, so there is something for everyone. If these times don't work for you , there will be some privates offered.

Art with Mrs. Stoner
1st & 2nd Grades

*Description for grades 1-12
Most projects will be completed in one session and are tailored to age appropriate ability. All classes are a continuation of fine art instruction which includes art terminology, principles and elements of art and design expressed through composition and technique. We will continue our journey discovering the masters, their lives, and reflecting their painterly styles in our work. Media includes watercolor, acrylic, chalk & oil pastel, watercolor pencil & crayon, clay, plus expanding new media and techniques. I try to incorporate the Nebraska Department of Education Visual Arts guidelines in each project.

Introduction to Spanish with Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Valdivieso

Limited to 8 students.

Geared towards children ages 5-8, beginning Spanish will be taught through songs, stories, and activities. We will focus on the Spanish alphabet, numbers 1-20, colors, introductions, and basic home, family, and school vocabulary.

Ages 7 and up (Student must pass a skills test for entry into this class)

This class is for students who can already do forward and backward rolls, cartwheels and are progressing on their handstands. Students will improve on their current level of skill.

Kids Journal withe Mrs. Cassel

In this class, we will explore many different kinds of writing including (but not limited to): story writing, poetry, news articles, persuasive writing, and much more! Depending on how our writing goes, we will pick several pieces to "publish" in fun and creative ways including various methods of bookbinding, and in various writing contests if the kids are interested in giving it a try.

Sr Chess with Mrs. Nabity

Intermediate Chess: This class is ready to play notated well-known games from tournaments to learn tournament strategies. We will continue learning to notate, will focus on the end game and will learn to play with a chess clock. We will also take time to play some Fischer Random Chess, speed chess, bughouse chess, and may possibly get a chance to play against a master (the master will play all chess boards at the same time). I have a schedule of 8 tournaments scheduled in Lincoln and Omaha for February - April. Players will be encouraged to try some tournament play.

Students will learn the importance of preserving of photos, and memories using basic scrap-booking techniques. Please provide multiple copies of photos so students can experiment with technique.

Nature Journal with Mrs. Cassel & Mrs, Gann

Ages 8 and up (though exceptions can be made based on the individual child)

Sitting in God's creation, noticing the incredible things He has created for us to enjoy is what Nature Journaling is all about! In this class the kids will create and learn to keep a nature journal, including understanding how to notice the world around them, how to capture what they see in both writing, and various mediums, styles & methods of drawing and painting. We will spend a lot of time outside as the weather cooperates, but we will also have many activities and lessons we can do when it doesn't. This class isn't just for kids who love art. Artists and scientists alike must develop the ability to observe the world around them and that's what this class endeavors to teach

Story Time with Jen (12-12:30)

The joy of a good story combined with hands on crafts! This class will enjoy reading stories, and working on basic preschool skills including cutting, gluing, coloring and lots of messy fun.

Dangerous Book for Boys with Mr. Penn
Ages 8 and up

Based on the book Dangerous Book for Boys by Conn and Hal Iggulden. We will be doing lots of adventurous, hands on learning.

Jr. Chess with Mrs. Nabity

Beginning Chess: For those you do not yet know the basic moves and strategies for chess, or for the younger player who isn't quite ready for the tournament preparation that the intermediate class will be focusing on. This class will focus on opening strategies, developing the middle game and playing notated games. Parents are welcome to join us.

This class requires a two-session commitment (one session is 4 weeks). Our primary medium will be oil which will take 4 to 8 classes to complete.

Around the World: Geography with Mrs. Wilene

Come explore the world as we learn about places like New Zealand, India, Greece, South Korea, Canada, Brazil, and more! Each week we will trek to a new country, learning about the continents, bodies of water, mountains, flags, famous people, fascinating things about the history and culture of each country, and more. We will make some simple crafts and try some yummy foods from around the world as well.

Computer Basics class with Mr. Massey

If your child is taking a wrestling, tumbling or dance class there is a 4th form that will need to be completed and turned in as well.
